Two weeks after her Iraq-war drama was shut out at the Golden Globes, the Hurt Locker director beat out ex-hubby James Cameron for the top prize Saturday at the 62nd Annual Directors Guild of America Awards, the first time a woman has ever won the prestigious honor.

"This is the most incredible moment of my life," Bigelow, 58, said. "This is amazing. I'm so deeply stunned, honored and awed."

The DGA prize is one of the most accurate Oscar predictors, having accurately presaged the Academy Award-winning Best Director all but six times in 61 years.

Meanwhile, Louie Psihoyos won the prize for documentary direction for The Cove, while screen stalwart Norman Jewison (Moonstruck, ...And Justice for All) received the guild's top honor, the Lifetime Achievement Award.

He's the lead singer for a rock band called Wailing Waters. It's actually won a trio of battle of the bands competitions over the year: the Mayfair Festival Band Battle, Croc Rock Band Battlefest and Nazareth Day Battle of the Bands.

The singer says she messed up last year's show with the drama that occurred between her and ex-boyfriend Chris Brown.

Rihanna was due to perform at last year's event with Chris, but they had to cancel at the last minute after he attacked her before the show.

Speaking about the drama, Rihanna said: "We messed up the show pretty bad last year, so they're probably a little mad at me right now."

"The couple signed the document in early January. They agreed to share their money and assets and custody of their six children, all of whom would live with Angelina in the event of their parents’ break-up.

"They didn't talk to the lawyer about splitting, nor was that ever mentioned at the meeting. Brad and Angelina aren't splitting right now."

He and his wife Anne-Marie Duff have confirmed they're expecting their first baby.

The actors have only recently hinted at their hopes of becoming parents.

Their spokesman, Rupert Fowler, said: "We are happy to confirm that James McAvoy and Anne-Marie Duff are expecting their first child.

"We have no further comment or information at this time."

The pair have been together since meeting on the set of Shameless in 2003, and married in a quiet ceremony in October 2006.

At 39, Anne-Marie is nine years older than James and recently spoke about her longing to become a mum.

She said: "I would love to have a baby.

"As soon as the big fella makes it happen, it would be brilliant. I'm not putting it off but, unfortunately, bodies don't work that way."

Alessandra Torresani is not a name you might not be familiar with yet, but after Friday’s premiere of the new Syfy series “Caprica”, you will be hearing it more often.

“Caprica” is the latest offering from sci-fi phenomenon Ronald Moore and serves as a prequel to his hit re-imagining of “Battlestar Galactica”.

Alessandra portrays the character Zoe Graystone, whose eventual death will play a key role in the creation of “BSG” arch-villains, the Cylons, in the series’ mythology.

David Eick, Executive Producer of both “Caprica” and “Battlestar Galactica,” said at a recent press event that Alessandra, “Just came in. After ‘Battlestar,’ we felt so fortunate to have that cast, and I don’t mind saying publicly [that] I feel like we got even luckier with this ensemble.”

A native of Palo Alto, California, Alessandra got her break at 9-years-old when she started hosting “WB Kids Club.” Early in 2000 the actress moved to LA and started picking up guest roles in shows such as “Bones,” “E.R.,” “Malcolm in the Middle,” and “Arrested Development,” amongst others.

While the actress is no stranger to Hollywood, the “Caprica” star is a relative unknown to the public at large. Even though the shoes she is stepping into are big - especially considering she is acting alongside such powerhouses as Eric Stolz, Paula Malcomson and Esai Morales - Torresani shines in the two-hour premiere.

The “Caprica” movie was released on DVD back in April of 2009 as a back-door pilot for the new series. Fans have already had a taste of Alessandra and the futuristic, polytheistic world of “Caprica,” and have been clamoring for more since. The “Caprica” Facebook page boasts nearly 20,000 followers, all before the pilot has even hit the airwaves.

Eick, when pressed, has no fear of non-Battlestar fans being interested in the show. “Other than the fact that if you happen to know ‘Battlestar Galactica,’ you know that that show had its roots in some of the stories we’re telling now, there really is no relationship between the two shows whatsoever.”

Britney Spears has appeared in court with her father.

The judge involved in her ongoing court case, which oversees her father's involvement in her legal affairs, wanted to see the singer for a progress review.

Britney's father took control of her affairs following her breakdown two years ago and now the pop star wants to take part in a charity auction - but needs the court's agreement.

Britney's lawyers sought permission to auction off her 2008 MTV Video Music Awards dress to raise money for Haiti earthquake relief.

Her court-appointed attorney Samuel Ingham told the judge that she was "very enthusiastic about the idea for a donation to Haiti".

The judge approved the donation of the dress and Britney can now add her name to the long list of celebrities doing their bit for Haiti.

Britney's father will continue to control her legal affairs until she proves to the court that she's able to manage them herself.
