Joe McElderry's latest

Joe McElderry's got a smile on his face at last.

He's finally hit the number 1 spot.

The X Factor winner's debut single reached the top of the charts on Sunday.

His success comes a week after he lost out on the Christmas number 1 spot to Rage Against The Machine.

Joe said: "I am so happy that the single is No.1.

"Thank you so much to everyone that has supported me, this had been the best Christmas ever and I want to wish everyone a very happy New Year."

Joe sold over two-and-a-half times more copies than the US rockers in the last week, with The Climb shifting 196,000 copies and Rage's Killing In The Name moving 69,000 copies.

Meanwhile Joe's X Factor mentor Cheryl Cole reached number four with her latest single, Three Words.

Last year's X Factor finalists JLS are at number five in the album charts with their debut eponymous album.
