Nicole announced the happy news on Monday's The Late Show with David Letterman.
But it seems the starry couple have been keeping this announcement under wraps for quite a while.
Joel writes on his Twitter page the same day: "Yep. I'm engaged. Very happy," adding, "Yeah, we've been engaged for a while so you're all kind of late on that. But thanks for the hooplah all the same."
